King Abdullah Humanitarian Foundation completed (6) school–cyclone shelters, as a part of Fael Khair Program supervised by Islamic Development Bank. They were constructed in some cities in Bangladesh to aid SIDR Cyclone victims. Representative of Islamic handed over those school-cyclone shelters to Local Government Departments in Bangladesh on an occasion attended by high ranking local government officials in the concerned regions. Thus, the total number of buildings delivered so far is about 100 school-cyclone shelters out of 173. The remaining schools are still under construction. These schools have been designed to be used as safe shelters when necessary.
School-cyclone shelters have been designed in to withstand top wind speeds of up 260 km/h. These facilities are designed as “green” buildings equipped with durable school furniture, solar power and potable water supply system, including rain water harvesting which provides safe drinking water in this saline belt where safe drinking water is a priceless commodity, especially during calamities and floods.
It may be recalled that late King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, may God have mercy on him, has allocated USD 130 million within “Fael Khair” Program for providing relief and assistance to the victims of cyclone Sidr as follows: (i) USD 110 million for the construction of a number of School-Cyclone Shelters in the coastal belt of Bangladesh, and (ii) USD 20 million Waqf for providing urgent relief and rehabilitation in the form of agricultural and other inputs to the affected population.

KAIHF supervises a number of projects around the world, including: Fael Khair Program, which is being implemented in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank in more than (20) countries, including: Indonesia, Niger, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Somalia, West African Countries, Sudan and other countries with focus on education, socio-economic development and health.
